Create your own adventure…

Visit Chemainus and take your photo next to any of our 41 murals or next to one of our statues marking your arrival at one of the most beloved places by visitors to Vancouver Island.

The Chemainus and Cowichan Valley is a region that lives up to its name “the warm land” with the mildest climate in Canada.

Take a guided historic walking tour or take the horse and carriage tour or board the” train”.

It is a region renowned for its artists. Painters, potters, glass blowers jewelers, carvers, weavers, soap makers from magical places like Salt Spring Island. Hand crafted goat’s cheese, organic produce, herbs-basil, tarragon, and lavender- the smells, the tastes. Poke about the hundreds of shops on the islands or go right to the artist’s studio to fill your baskets. The flower lined streets of Chemainus have some of the best little shops on the island. Visit the Gallery at Chemainus Theatre where they feature over 100 BC artists. If you are looking for antiques, best to start right. You may find you have time (and money) left over for a double scoop of mocha chocolate surprise.

Enjoy a round of Golf? There are 23 golf courses within one hour of Chemainus and a beautiful course that’s an easy seven iron (ok, maybe a five) from the front door of the Best Western Chemainus Festival Inn. Oh and you can golf year –round.

How about a hike or a scenic drive? What ever your preference, there are endless trails to explore. And be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for some of the more that 380 species of feather friends that love the region too.

Stay the night; Check into one of Chemainus luxurious and/or comfortable B&Bs or stay at the Best Western Suite style Hotel.

Then choose a local eatery for a meal high-lighting the season’s bounty.

We certainly recommend, the local Playbill restaurant located in the Festival Theatre building and while you are there take in a live theatre shows. Of all the Treasures on Vancouver Island none shines brighter than the Chemainus Theatre Festival. Each year they present five professionally mounted main stage productions and a series for children. Some of BC’s and Canada’s most accomplished actors, directors and designers come together at the festival to create astounding live theatre. It will leave a lasting memory. Call for more information.

Did someone ask for water? Clean air pristine lakes, this is the place to dive or fish, saltwater or fresh, they are always biting, power or sail, canoe or kayak, this is a boater’s paradise. The endless sheltered bays and lagoons and miles of open water will lead you to as much adventure or peace and quiet as you can handle.

Nearby; Do watch for our resident pod of orcas breaching in the waters off the Saanich Peninsula to the south of us. In the spring 20,000 pacific gray whales grace our west coast on their way to Alaska.
