Yes, the flower baskets are coordinated and maintained by the BIA (DBA Tourism Chemainus).
It was the BIA that initiated the revitalization program for Chemainus and now that the municipality took this program over we still sit on the Chemainus committee.
We attend Chamber of Commerce meetings.
Every advertising you see for Chemainus is placed and paid for by the BIA typical publications are:
Tourism Victoria main guide, Tourism Vancouver Island Main Guide, Tourism Cowichan main guide, Tourism Victoria main office poster and brochures, Highway bill boards and some in town signage, Last years Chemainus Chronicle main tourist guide, The Ultimate Courier Chemainus Guide advertising and support for local events ie Bluegrass, Christmas ect.
We have regular full page features in the Times Columnist newspaper on Vancouver Island.
We have a Facebook (Tourism Chemainus) marketing campaign and maintain that page
We have a media invitation program that brings travel media into the Village with an aim to have them write about Chemainus.
Tons of media writers coming this September and Fall.
We attend the Home Show in Vancouver talking to over 50000 potential visitors.
We commissioned a signage study this spring and acted on it. (Four new directional signs have been installed)
Certainly; all the banners in town and at the Highway and Henry Road is our doing and expense.
We are currently completing a research campaign gathering vital information from visitors for future guidance.
We are just completing a vital statistics document, which will help in attracting new business to the Village.
We maintain the website visitchemainus.com – are placing an Ebook online this winter.
We apply for annual grants and received $ 15000 to over $ 20000 yearly.
We funded, via Chemainus Dollars, the buy local rebate program this summer.
We produce and distribute the Chemainus Map and Guide – which is distributed to over 170 Vancouver Island locations. 18000 copies.
As mentioned we, when possible via marketing, support local events (if asked) and again during 2011-2012 we intend to assist with the coordination and ENCOURAGING of the creation of even more Chemainus (annual if possible) events. We are contracting with a person who can do that for us during 2011-12.
Indeed, the empty stores in town have nicely covered up windows and display art – It is a BIA project.
We do much more to grow and market this community in cooperation with the Chamber and in partnership with Tourism Vancouver Island Tourism and communities such as Ladysmith.
We do have this blog of course as well as a Twitter account.
We monitor and place articles and photo’s on websites such as Tripadvisor and other related tourism web sites.
We have a marketing banner for the town that is used for trade shows and displays.
We answer enquiries from Tourists along with the Chamber.
We sponsor the Living Mural Isabel and Julia Askew historic walking program in partnership with the Festival of Murals.
